Children often start acting a little weird just before Christmas especially if they can’t go outside to burn energy in bad weather so thinking up some Christmas crafts for kids could keep you and them reasonably sane! Of course what kinds of Christmas crafts you decide on will depend on the skill levels and age of the children involved. Older children can be left in charge of smaller children for a while, if they can be trusted to supervise and help make the Christmas crafts for the kids who are a little younger than themselves.
There are a lot of things these days that can be found on the internet – different designs that can be printed out and then painted or colored in, and then cut out to hang on the tree or decorate the room. One of the favorite Christmas crafts for kids that my kids enjoyed was making yards and yards of paper chain that we would hang around the living room and drape across the hallway. All you need for that are some strips of red, green and white paper, a stapler or craft glue. If there are a number of children participating you could put them into two teams balanced for age and aptitude, and see who can make the longest paper chain in a set amount of time.
With the lovely sparkly pens you can buy and the amazing colors of crayons and paints available, you could print out a nativity scene and have children fill in the colors. Christmas crafts for kids can be a whole lot of fun and keep the children occupied for hours, without parking them in front of a television.
Christmas crafts for kids help the children to use their imagination too. You could discuss Christmas with them and help them to understand what the Christmas story is all about. It’s a shame that to most people Christmas simply means shopping and eating – they forget about the real significance of December 25th.
Part of the Christmas crafts for kids activity could also be having the children write down what gifts they would like for Christmas. It may be a help for you as a parent, as there is so much stuff for sale for kids these days it’s difficult to know what to buy.
You may want to have two sessions of Christmas crafts for kids, have your friend’s kids over for the day while she goes shopping, and then another day she can return the favor.
